We’ve pored over majestic murder mysteries from our former fatherland, Britain, like “Foyle’s War,” “Poirot,” “Vera,” “George Gently,” and we’ve cottoned onto Aussie detectives like “Jack Irish,” Sam Callaghan from “Serangoon Road” and “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.”
Now the New Zealanders are getting into the act with “The Brokenwood Mysteries” streaming on Acorn.TV and “Harry,” starring an American favorite, Sam Neill and Oscar Kightley. Kightley plays a cop haunted by his wife’s sudden death who returns to work early only to face the task of solving a pointless homicide. The six-parter begins streaming on Acorn.TV June 1. Acorn offers a 30-day free trial at www.acorn.tv.
